About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

The Yellow House Taos  mission is to support the local and emerging art community and enrich the cultural landscape of Taos through various community programs and initiatives.

Our first priority is affordable working space for artists to hone their skills and portfolios and benefit from a collective of artists also seeking growth.  We then seek to offer various makerspace tools and programming aimed to improve the intellectual and technical skills around producing strong, professional art.

in 2024-2025, founders Emily and Kaylie were sharing a studio space thru UNM-Taos art department's temporary "annex" warehouse on the southside of town while their usual Klauer campus building underwent renovations.  In this space they dreamed of keeping up a similar environment for other emerging artists and also solving a problem they themselves had - not many accessible spaces for low-income artists to work and collaborate on projects.

Thus was born "Yellow House Taos".  The "little yellow house" was an unrealized dream of Dutch visionary artist Vincent Van Gogh to create a place where artists could gather and make art in support of one-another, free from the grip of the art establishment and overbearing critics of the time.

We are taking that dream and translating it to the modern needs of growing Taos artists who want to buck the trends established by the Taos Society of Artists.  While there is nothing wrong with the beautiful landscape-based art that Taos is famous for, we want to showcase and support something different, and frankly, weirder.
