Late December we had the opportunity to explore the Taos Art Museum (AKA the Fechin House) with Executive Director Christy Coleman. Read on for an overview of our awesome field trip:
Before the tour we had a tailgate coffee and snack party in the parking lot and got to talk about art, projects and whatever as people arrived for the tour.
We then joined Christy behind the scenes on a tour of the new collections vault, Fechin Studio, and talked about how things work at the museum and the rich history of how it came to be. We also discussed some amazing opportunities available for local artists (emerging and established) at the museum.
The museum has 3 different galleries:
1. The original house with Nicholai Fechin's portrait collections,
2. The brand new Coffee Gallery features a rotating collection of Taos Moderns, and
3. The Fechin Studio Gallery featuring rotating NM artists and a gift shop of local art. Featuring an exhibit of the Sky Eagle Collection during our visit.
FYI:
This is a great place to volunteer if you're looking to get started with a career in the arts.
There is an open application page on the Museum's website with instructions on how to apply to show your contemporary art in the Fechin Studio Gallery behind the gift shop. They are eager to showcase local talent so don't be shy, people!
